October to March
If you want the easiest first Meghalaya trip, this is the most forgiving window. Roads are generally easier, skies open up more regularly, and travel days feel cleaner from start to finish. Dawki is at its best in this period because the Umngot River looks clearest in the drier months, and families usually find the day-trip flow much more comfortable than during the wet season.
October and November are especially good if you want the state to still feel green but do not want monsoon visibility issues. December to February adds crisp air, stronger sunrise conditions, and clearer valley lines in places like Sohra and Laitlum. It is also when holiday demand rises, so transport and stays should be locked earlier than usual.
