The first thing to understand about Meghalaya costs
Meghalaya is not usually expensive in the same way as a luxury hill station, but it can become costly very quickly if the route is inefficient. The reason is simple: the state is road-driven. Transport shapes the whole budget. If you compress too many far-apart places into too few days, you spend more on driving time, hotel changes, and unplanned fatigue purchases than you expected at the start.
That is why a realistic budget does not begin with one grand total. It begins with categories: transport, stay, food, and a small activity buffer. Once those are separated, it becomes much easier to see where money is actually going and where smart savings are possible without making the trip feel cheap.
