Cherrapunji (Sohra)

Cherrapunji, locally called Sohra, is where Meghalaya feels largest in scale. The roads open into long valley views, the cliffs fall away dramatically, and almost every turn leads to a waterfall, cave entrance, or lookout point.

In monsoon, Sohra becomes a full sensory experience with moving clouds and thundering falls. In winter, the same landscape turns sharper and clearer, making it easier to appreciate the canyon lines and cover more ground in a day.

It works well as either a long day trip from Shillong or an overnight stay if you want sunrise, slower cave visits, and time for scattered stops without rushing.
